Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Goes to Washington recaptures the New York disco nostalgia of the band's landmark 1976 debut while excluding most of the experimentation which bogged down their admirable follow-up, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Meets King Penett. Although RCA reshuffled the songs from the first two albums and reissued them under the deceptive title The Very Best of Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, no overview of the group is truly complete without acknowledging what would be their final album before Cory Daye went solo and August Darnell and 'Sugar Coated' Andy Hernandez formed Kid Creole and the Coconuts. In many ways, Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band Goes to Washington serves as a bridge between the band and their subsequent careers. The pan-cultural beats and worldly wisdom of Kid Creole can be heard in songs like 'Once There Was a Colored Girl...' and 'Italiano,' while the retro dance energy of 'Call Me' was revisited by Daye on her solo debut, Cory and Me. As always, Daye's friendly vocals and exuberant personality take center stage before a supporting chorus of bandmates, and Darnell's clever travelogues are buoyed by a genre-blending mix of tropical melodies, danceable tempos, and dramatically orchestrated pop hooks. There is no surefire classic like their breakthrough hit 'Cherchez La Femme,' but ...Goes to Washington provides enough pleasant surprises to delight Dr. Buzzard and Kid Creole fans who may have overlooked this unique curio from the disco era.
Dr Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band featured Cory Daye on lead vocals, while Kid Creole and the Coconuts would feature various singers until Darnell himself finally stepped up to the microphone. There were also some lineup changes, but the core group of August Darnell, Stony Browder, and Andy Hernandez remained a constant. A pair of Haitians in the Bronx, Stony Browder Jr. And his brother Thomas (who renamed himself August Darnell), formed Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band in 1974 with singer Cory Daye as the centerpiece. Sep 16, 2017 September 16, 2017 Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band was a big band swing music-influenced disco band from the Bronx, New York that was formed by half-brothers Stony Browder Jr. (born on February 7, 1949) and August Darnell (born Thomas August Darnell Browder on August 12, 1950) in 1974.
Buzzard's Original Savannah Band is the debut studio album by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band. It was released in 1976 by RCA. It peaked at number 22 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 31 on the Top R&B Albums chart.

'Cherchez La Femme' (French for Seek the woman) is a song that was written and performed by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band with lead vocals by Cory Daye in 1976. The music was written by band-leader and pianist Stony Browder Jr. and John Schonberger, Richard Coburn (né Frank Reginald DeLong; 1886–1952), and Vincent Rose; with lyrics by Browder Jr.'s brother and bassist August Darnell. The song's full title is 'Whispering'/'Cherchez La Femme'/'Se Si Bon' [sic]. 'Cherchez La Femme' became the group's biggest hit.
The song's opening lyric is notable in itself as it makes a reference to record executive Tommy Mottola, who was instrumental in giving the act their major label deal. Along with the tracks 'Sour and Sweet' and 'I'll Play the Fool', 'Cherchez La Femme' went to #1 on the disco chart.[1] 'Cherchez La Femme' also charted on the pop, R&B, and Adult Contemporary charts.

Critical reception[edit]
Music & Media commented, 'In 1977, romantic couples took the floor every time Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band was played. Now another 'femme' is singing the nostalgic swing band song with equal joy.'[6] Phil Shanklin of ReviewsRevues wrote in his review of the Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me album, that it is 'a brave move' to cover the song. He added, 'Gloria’ s vocal lacks the playful coquettishness of Cory Daye’s but it is great to hear it again amongst her selections of songs.'[7]
